The College of Nursing is a community of scholars and practitioners dedicated to the enhancement of human well-being through education of inquisitive students, creative innovation within practice, development and dissemination of research.

PURPOSE

  • The program is designed to meet the individual or diverse needs of women and men from a broad range of culture and backgrounds.
  • The primary focus throughout the program is to promote caring attitudes and behaviors in the professional nurse.
  • The curriculum is designed to provide a liberal and professional educational foundation essential for competent practice with ethical judgment, creative and critical thinking; for understanding a multicultural society within the context of individual needs and her environment; for utilizing nursing theory and research; for promoting personal and professional growth and for enhancing motivation for continuing education.
  • The graduate will be prepared at the baccalaureate level in nursing to function as a generalist who is able to utilize the nursing process in caring for a diverse, multicultural society in a variety of healthcare settings.
  • The Post graduate will be prepared at the Master’s level in nursing to function as a specialist who is able to utilize the nursing process in caring for a diverse, multicultural society in a variety of healthcare settings.
  • The major roles the graduate will be prepared to assume are direct provider, planner/coordinator, manager, and contributor to the nursing profession and health care team.
  • The baccalaureate and Post graduate program is designed to prepare the student nurse for professional nursing practice within the legal framework of the Indian nursing council practice Act.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • The graduate of the program will synthesize theoretical and empirical knowledge of the individual from nursing, scientific and humanistic disciplines with practice.
  • The graduate of the program will evaluate the interaction of and adaptation to the internal and external environment to promote the integrity of the individual.
  • The graduate of the program will provide professional nursing care which includes health promotion, prevention and maintenance in disrupted states of well-being, restoration, rehabilitation, health counseling and education based on knowledge derived from theory, research and practice.
  • The graduate of the program will enhance the quality of nursing and health practices through caring, investment of self and commitment toward well-being of others.
  • The graduate will engage in life long learning in order to enhance critical thinking skills in making decisions, clinical judgments and in problem solving.
